2025-12-14A delegation from Riyadh Municipality conducted an exploratory visit to Sydney, Australia, as part of a specialized program to examine international best practices in integrated urban planning, population growth management, infrastructure development, and sustainability supporting the advancement of municipal policies and practices in Riyadh.
The program began with a visit to the Liverpool City Council, one of the fastest-growing areas in Western Sydney. The delegation reviewed long-term strategic planning frameworks, approaches to managing rapid urban expansion, land-use planning integration, economic diversification, and Liverpool’s role as a logistics gateway linked to Western Sydney International Airport.
The delegation also examined urban performance indicators and a planning model centered on education, innovation, healthcare, and logistics, alongside the development of green, connected urban environments—with a focus on affordable housing, quality of life, and neighborhood sustainability.
Another stop included the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal, highlighting the role of major logistics infrastructure in reshaping urban development patterns, shifting freight from road to rail, reducing environmental impact, and integrating with industrial zones, airports, and the aerotropolis.
In the strategic infrastructure track, the delegation visited Western Sydney International Airport, reviewing airport-led development as an economic engine, the integration of urban planning with transport networks, phased project delivery, high-efficiency digital operations, and environmental sustainability practices.
The program also featured a visit to Bradfield City and advanced manufacturing facilities, showcasing the development of a city built from the ground up—integrating industry, research, innovation, skills development, and investment attraction in advanced sectors.
Additionally, the delegation reviewed residential projects based on build-to-rent models, waste-management systems aligned with the circular economy, sorting and recycling mechanisms, and waste-to-product initiatives.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Saudi Consulate General in Sydney hosted the delegation at the Consul General’s residence, reaffirming institutional coordination and diplomatic support for the Municipality’s external programs and international knowledge exchange.
This visit aligns with Riyadh Municipality’s strategy to strengthen its urban planning ecosystem and adopt global best practices, contributing to improved quality of life in Riyadh in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
