Services and Initiatives Directed to Rural Areas

In line with its commitment to achieving balanced and comprehensive development, the Riyadh Municipality places special attention on residents of rural areas and the centers surrounding the capital. It seeks to improve the quality of life in these areas by developing infrastructure, providing municipal services, and enhancing access to government development programs.

Although the main role in supporting agricultural projects and rural development falls under the responsibility of the competent authorities such as the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture the Municipality contributes in a complementary role by creating an enabling environment for the implementation of these programs, through:

• Developing rural roads to facilitate access to farms and villages.
• Issuing building and fencing permits for farms within its municipal jurisdiction.
• Supervising seasonal agricultural markets and commercial activities related to rural production.

In this context, rural residents can benefit from the support request service in the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Reef), provided by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. Applications are submitted through the Unified National Platform.
