Their Excellencies and ministers concerned with municipal affairs in the GCC states during their twenty-fifth meeting, held yesterday, chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing - Chairman of the current session - Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, and in the presence of their Excellencies and ministers concerned with municipal affairs in the GCC states, and with the participation of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Council Cooperation for the Arab Gulf States, Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Unified Gulf Building Code.
The participating ministers valued the support and guidance of the leaders of the GCC countries - may Allah protect them - to advance and develop the joint GCC municipal work, to achieve the lofty goals of the Cooperation Council represented in deepening cooperation, interdependence and integration among the GCC states, and consolidating the gains of the Council. The launch of the Gulf Building Code, which was approved by the honorable Ministerial Council as a guideline for a period of three years, comes to enhance coordination in the Gulf municipal field. Their excellencies the ministers discussed a number of important common issues in the municipal field, foremost of which is the implementation of the decisions issued by the esteemed Supreme Council in previous sessions in the municipal field, especially the strategy of joint Gulf municipal work, the urban environment, and future directions for the strategic urban planning of the GCC states. Cooperation, the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic, the development of legislation and municipal oversight mechanisms, and the conditions and mechanism for classifying contractors, in addition to following up on the implementation of previous decisions of the Committee of Excellencies Ministers Concerned with Municipal Affairs regarding the Cooperation Council Award for municipal work and the exchange of experiences, expertise, information, and other topics of common interest.
