The Kingdom has established a comprehensive system to care for this group, supported the social security system, and encouraged institutions and individuals to participate in charitable activities to assist them.
Rehabilitation services are offered to empower people with special needs, enabling them to achieve maximum functional efficiency and adapt to their social and natural environments. Mental Health
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places great emphasis on the mental health of its citizens and residents, ensuring their psychological well-being is as important as their physical health. The Kingdom has launched awareness campaigns to support mental health and provided psychological consultation services over the phone through the Psychological Consultation Center at (920033360) or via the "Qareboon" app, affiliated with the National Center for Mental Health Promotion.
The Kingdom has also established mental health centers and associations, ensuring the rights of psychiatric patients are protected as with all other patients.
Efforts are focused on the early detection of depression and anxiety, as well as monitoring chronic mental illnesses through integrated health counseling services (primary mental healthcare). Additionally, the Kingdom seeks to link medical treatment with emotional support through Support groups that encourage patients to share experiences and support one another.
Saudi Arabia boasts a wide network of mental health services, with approximately 21 mental health hospitals and 99 psychiatric clinics distributed across various regions. To view their locations and contact details, click here.
The Kingdom has also established the "Ajwad" Center to care for homeless patients, providing them with the necessary care and rehabilitation. Furthermore, the National Center for Mental Health Promotion offers an electronic guide containing information about hospitals, private clinics, rehabilitation centers, and associations concerned with mental health.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established the National Health Emergency Operations Center (NHEOC) in the Kingdom as the first center to collaborate with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the field in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The accreditation highlights the effective role of the center in building national and regional capabilities in this vital area. It is also deemed an extension of the MOH efforts and qualitative initiatives. In so doing, NHEOC realizes the Saudi Vision 2030, especially the 3rd strategic goal (reducing health risks).
NHEOC is the operating and control room for the implementation and follow-up of the tasks MOH has been undertaking to manage crises and disasters stipulated in the bylaws and regulations. It also serves as the official, swift link between MOH and other relevant government agencies, such as the Red Crescent Authority and the Department of Civil Defense. The Center is also the point of connection with the health affairs directorates in all Kingdom regions linked to all hospitals, healthcare centers, and other health sectors, both public and private. The Center oversees, monitors, and follows up all health incidents that affect the health of individuals, and may cause collective losses. Such incidents might be epidemic outbreaks, fire accidents, or human accidents. In addition to monitoring the performance of hospitals and regions in dealing with them, and in the event of a need for support from a higher level, the center is activated to manage the crisis and coordinate government communication to contain the effects of the event. The center's role is not limited to dealing with disasters and crises and responding to them when they occur only; rather, it goes beyond that to what is more important, which is identifying their causes and working to prevent them. This is one of the most important tasks of the Crisis and Disaster Management Center; where a periodic inventory of risks is conducted in health facilities and outside them at the regional level, analyzing their causes, preparing periodic reports on them, preparing action plans to prevent disasters due to these risks, and preparing to deal with their effects if they occur.
