Riyadh Municipality has begun implementing its field plan to enhance readiness and preparedness for this year’s rainy season. The plan involves 9,053 personnel, including engineers, inspectors, technicians, and field workers, supported by 2,123 specialized machines and vehicles deployed across the city’s neighborhoods and major corridors. This operational plan aims to improve city management efficiency and strengthen rapid response to emergency situations.

Field teams operate around the clock to address rainwater accumulation, improve traffic flow, and ensure the continuity of municipal services at critical locations throughout the city. This is achieved through integrated coordination with the reports and emergency center to provide immediate responses to any rise in water levels, ensuring uninterrupted services at vital sites such as main roads, tunnels, and neighborhood entrances.

Preparations began at the end of the previous season with the implementation of field drills and simulated scenarios during the summer, aimed at enhancing staff readiness to deal with rain-related emergencies and strengthening their field management skills. Comprehensive maintenance works were also carried out on rainwater drainage networks, tunnels, and drainage inlets within neighborhoods, contributing to improved infrastructure efficiency and reduced impacts of water pooling during rainfall.

The Municipality has also updated its operational plans and emergency scenarios in line with changing climate conditions, strengthened logistical support by providing backup equipment, and strategically distributed resources at well-studied locations to reduce response times. In addition, coordination mechanisms between operations rooms and field teams were enhanced to ensure swift response and continuity of operations under various weather conditions.

These efforts form part of Riyadh Municipality’s strategy to develop the city’s systems, enhance operational reliability, and improve on-the-ground emergency response, thereby ensuring the safety of residents and visitors and maintaining high-quality, sustainable municipal services.
