His Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh, sponsored today the 13th International Conference of the Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design (ASCAAD 2025), hosted by Alfaisal University in Riyadh. The event was attended by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al-Hayaza, President of Alfaisal University; Her Royal Highness Princess Dr. Maha bint Mishari bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Vice President for External Relations and Development; and His Highness Prince Mansour bin Saad bin Farhan Al Saud, Assistant Secretary-General of the King Faisal Foundation, along with a distinguished group of experts, researchers, and designers from around the world.

Dr. Mohammed Annan, Dean of the College of Engineering and Advanced Computing at Alfaisal University, welcomed the attendees and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering creativity through the integration of engineering, technology, and design. He emphasized empowering the next generation of engineers and architects to lead the upcoming digital transformation in line with Saudi Vision 2030, noting the institutional support and organizational efforts that contributed to the success of the conference in a way that reflects the university’s prestigious position.

For his part, Professor Sherif Abdelmohsen, President of the Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design and Chair of the Department of Architecture at the American University in Cairo, highlighted the society’s journey since its establishment in 2001 and its role in building bridges between academics and practitioners in digital and architectural design. He also reviewed the conference’s main themes and workshops, which focused on localizing architectural identity in the age of artificial intelligence.

Dr. Rob Woodbury, Professor of Computational Design at Simon Fraser University in Canada, delivered a keynote address on the vital role of architecture in shaping the future of cities. He stressed the importance of integrating humans and machines to explore design spaces through generative systems and interactive interfaces, noting that the future of architecture depends on designers’ awareness of how to harness computing to create more humane and innovative environments.

This year’s conference underscores the significance of merging technology with cultural identity and envisioning the future of sustainable architecture amid rapid digital transformation. The first day concluded with engaging discussions and scientific sessions presenting the latest research in computational design, artificial intelligence, and architectural education strategies—establishing ASCAAD 2025 as a distinguished academic platform that unites authenticity and innovation under the roof of Alfaisal University.
