Riyadh Municipality is continuing the implementation of a strategic development project for Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Road, extending over 15.5 kilometers. The project begins at its intersection with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Road in the south and extends northward to the Aramco oil pipeline. It is part of an integrated development initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity between neighborhoods and improving traffic flow in the northern part of the capital.
The project includes the construction of a main road with three lanes in each direction, alongside dedicated service lanes. It also involves humanizing the road and upgrading its urban elements, which includes improving intersections through the installation of three smart traffic signals, expanding sidewalks, constructing pedestrian walkways and cycling paths, upgrading entrances and parking areas, and providing universal accessibility facilities to serve all categories of users.
The project aims to achieve a set of developmental, traffic-related, and environmental goals foremost among them is increasing the road’s capacity and reducing congestion, particularly in commercial and vital areas. This will be achieved through road expansion to three lanes in each direction, organizing entrances and exits, and developing intersections to allow for higher traffic flow and reduced points of interference and bottlenecks. The project also contributes to enhancing traffic fluidity along the entire route through redesigned traffic lanes, improved service roads, and the activation of smart signals at intersections, thereby strengthening connectivity among northern Riyadh neighborhoods and minimizing frequent stops.
On the urban level, the project supports the enhancement of the cityscape and the improvement of quality of life through an integrated design that includes sidewalks, benches, walkways, landscaping, and green spaces, all while considering visual coordination elements and organizing public spaces.
The project also addresses previous infrastructure challenges, particularly in stormwater drainage and irrigation networks, by implementing modern systems that ensure road sustainability and increase maintenance and operational efficiency. Additionally, it emphasizes traffic safety by providing a secure environment for pedestrians and cyclists, clear pedestrian crossings, and accessible sidewalks, with full consideration for the needs of the visually impaired and people with disabilities—ensuring the road is accessible to all users.
Project components include the construction of a 34,376-meter-long stormwater drainage network, a 67,245-meter-long irrigation network, asphalt paving covering an area of 558,713 square meters, sidewalk rehabilitation over 476,421 square meters, the creation of 6,863 car parking spaces and 240 bicycle parking spaces, and the construction of 62 access points serving nearby sites.
Additionally, the project involves the development of a 20,000-meter-long dedicated cycling track, installation of 1,848 modern light poles, placement of 500 seating benches, and the enhancement of green areas covering 43,367 square meters. It also includes the planting of 7,077 trees and 28,714 shrubs as part of the landscaping and cityscape improvement efforts.
Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Road project exemplifies Riyadh Municipality’s commitment to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 through sustainable urban development, smart infrastructure, and comprehensive improvements that elevate the quality of life in a prosperous and sustainable city.
