2025-07-23His Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Mayor of the Riyadh Region, sponsored the award ceremony honoring the winners of the second edition of the “Mayor’s Award for Excellence and Innovation.” His Highness honored 39 winners across the main award tracks who contributed to enhancing institutional excellence and achieving outstanding accomplishments in service delivery. His Highness also honored the judging committee and the technical team behind the award in recognition of their efforts in ensuring the success of this edition.
In his speech during the ceremony, His Highness expressed his happiness with the launch of the award and the positive momentum it has generated, especially during this transformative phase that Riyadh city is undergoing. He congratulated the winners of this cycle for their dedication and excellence and wished them continued success in innovation and performance.
His Highness emphasized the strong drive for innovation and excellence among all employees of the Riyadh Municipality across various departments. He highlighted that each award track holds its own importance—particularly the "Customer Service" track, which is a cornerstone of the Riyadh experience. He also pointed out the significance of the "Model Employee" track, which sees high competition, in addition to the "Municipality Heroes" track and the "Innovative Initiatives" track.
His Highness extended his thanks to all 535 participants across the different tracks, affirming that this wide participation reflects a deep-rooted culture of innovation and creativity among the municipality's staff. He expressed his hopes that this award will continue in the coming years and that the culture of excellence, innovation, and dedication to serving the city’s residents will remain strong.
The ceremony included a presentation on the award's journey and objectives. Dr. Riyadh bin Abdulmohsen Al-Sheikh, Assistant Undersecretary for Strategy and Institutional Excellence at the Municipality, delivered a speech in which he discussed the award’s development stages and its impact on motivating the work environment. He noted that a culture of quality performance has become a key element of progress within the municipality. He also pointed to the unprecedented number of entries—535 submissions from various departments and municipalities—demonstrating strong engagement and belief in the value of excellence as a core principle and daily practice.
Dr. Al-Sheikh congratulated the winners, emphasizing that true competition lies in the continuous pursuit of growth and excellence. He thanked His Highness the Mayor for his support and commitment to instilling a culture of excellence and innovation within the municipality. He explained that the award has become a genuine platform for showcasing creative efforts, recognizing impactful achievements, and fostering motivation and empowerment.
The award represents one of the key initiatives launched by the Riyadh Municipality to promote performance excellence, celebrate outstanding accomplishments, and foster a spirit of positive competition within the municipal work environment. It aims to enhance performance efficiency and improve the quality of services provided to residents. Moreover, the award contributes to service development and increased satisfaction among beneficiaries by adopting a quality- and leadership-focused approach. This edition of the award continues the municipality’s efforts to promote both institutional and individual excellence, spotlight best practices, and inspire individuals and departments to innovate in service to the community. The award aims to honor efforts that create a tangible impact in improving municipal work and reinforcing the Municipality’s pioneering role. It is also part of the broader strategy to encourage innovation and excellence, develop human capital, and align with the vision of building a leading municipality that supports a prosperous, sustainable Riyadh. This vision focuses on improving quality of life and fulfilling the municipality’s mission of delivering high-quality services, fostering urban development, and building effective partnerships for a vibrant community.
The award consists of four main tracks. The first one is job excellence which targets individuals with outstanding performance across all job levels up to the position of General Manager. The second is innovative initiatives recognizes departments that have introduced developmental initiatives with measurable positive impact aligned with the Municipality’s strategic goals. The third track is Customer Service which based on electronic performance indicators such as 940 service call results and guest center metrics, this track honors departments that demonstrate the highest efficiency in responding to and engaging with residents. The fourth is Municipality Heroes which focuses on recognizing exceptional achievements characterized by heroic, momentary actions with immediate impact. Nominations for this track come directly from relevant regulatory bodies.
