The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs discussed ideas for developing smart parking with the participation of the Supreme Authority for Riyadh Development and a number of experts at a forum held in Jeddah. The municipal sector seeks to expand the parking projects of various types and take advantage of the latest technologies to address the acceleration of population growth in cities of the Kingdom and increment in the number of vehicles by 24% over the past ten years.
MOMRA, Riyadh Municipality and Supreme Authority for Development of Riyadh have joined efforts with government agencies and private sector to plan smart parking project in Riyadh, which will provide about 8000 smart parking in the first vital locations in between King Fahd Road, Olaya Road, and Khurais road.
Eng. Khaled El-Deghaither, General Supervisor of General Administration for Investment Development in MOMRA, stressed that municipal sector is working to provide suitable legislation for various types of parking in a way that ensures the preservation of urban residents rights, noting that financial model has been designed to ensure the sustainability of service delivery by the private sector and the development of city revenues.
He pointed out this project is a start of a large number of projects that will be established in rest of cities, after the adoption of the model to be circulated as one of initiatives of the National Transition Program 2020 in line with the vision of the Kingdom 2030.
