


Riyadh Metro Project is one of the largest public transportation projects in the world and represents a key part of the capital’s infrastructure development plan. The project aims to improve quality of life, reduce traffic congestion, boost the local economy, and protect the environment by providing a modern and sustainable means of transportation. The project was officially inaugurated on November 27, 2024, in the presence of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The metro consists of 6 main lines spanning 176 kilometers, with 84 stations, connecting major residential, commercial, educational, and healthcare areas, in addition to King Khalid International Airport and King Abdullah Financial District. Gradual operation of the lines began in December 2024, with the blue, yellow, and purple lines launched first, followed by the red and green lines in mid-December. On January 5, 2025, the orange line was launched, completing the operation of all six lines. Riyadh Metro is expected to enhance urban mobility, reduce dependence on private vehicles, and thereby lower emissions and improve air quality. The metro is projected to serve approximately 1.2 million passengers daily, with capacity expected to increase to 3.6 million passengers daily by 2035.
